Louis A. Ruprecht, Jr. 90PhD
Louis A. Ruprecht Jr. is a multi-disciplined author, international speaker and educator. His specializations and teaching competencies include religious and philosophical ethics, ancient Mediterranean studies, theories of tragedy, Modern Greek Studies, Islamic Studies and more. He is presently the director of the Center for Hellenic Studies at Georgia State University (GSU), a role he’s held since July 2012. He is also the William M. Suttles Professor of Religious Studies in the Department of Anthropology at GSU, and was worked a founding editor of the online magazine, “Sacred Matters,” in 2013.
Dr. Ruprecht earned his bachelor’s degree in religion, with a minor in Physics, from Duke University, in North Carolina. He also earned his master’s degree in theology and ethics from Duke. He would go on to obtain his Ph.D. in Ethics and Society from Emory University’s Graduate Division of Religion. An award-winning researcher, writer and educator, Dr. Ruprecht has been honored with teaching awards from Duke University, Emory University and Mercer University. He has also received distinguished fellowships from Emory University, Princeton University’s Program in Hellenic Studies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Woodrow Wilson Foundation.
Dr. Ruprecht is a member of The American Academy of Religion (AAR), the Modern Greek Studies Association (MGSA), The American Academy in Rome (AAR), and The American School of Classical Studies in Athens (ASCSA), among others. He has been interviewed by national and international media organizations, and in addition to a robust speaking schedule in the US, he has given lectures in Australia, China, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Spain, Taiwan and New Zealand.
