My favorite Woodruff event was certainly the Emory College Scholars Program Washington, D.C. trip. As a Dean's Achievement Scholar from Oxford, I had very little connection to the Scholars program, but I was interested in taking the trip to Washington, D.C. following my sophomore year.

On the trip, the staff and my fellow scholars were extremely welcoming, and I was able to truly dive into the scholars program. Furthermore, the trip was extremely interesting because of all the work the staff had to done to facilitate connections with Emory alumni and others.

We met with the Solicitor General at the time, Elizabeth Prelogar 02C, who was a former Woodruff Scholar, and she shared about her work and what lessons she would give to those considering law school. Additionally, we met representatives, including Jeff Jackson 04C 04G, who had revolutionized the way we interface with our representatives by his presence on social media.

While in D.C., we were also able to meet staffers, attend briefings, and tour the House and Senate buildings. For someone interested in politics, this experience galvanized my interest in law and politics, pushing me to secure an internship in consulting for economic litigation. My experience has certainly taught me to be willing to take risks even if I am new to something, and that the Woodruff Scholars Program is a very welcoming place. I hope other scholars who might not be very involved, just like me my sophomore year, take the chance and engage!
